A speech-language patholigist (SLP) working at a hospital seems like a totally different job. One of the cool things about working at a hospital is that we (along with a radiologist) are a part of the swallowing team. We basically get x-rays of a patient eating/drinking and have to read the x-rays in order to determine if the patient's swallow is adequate enough for eating/drinking. If not, we try to find a way for them to eat/drink; so we change the textures of the food from applesauce to puree, to thinkened liquids (like honey thick or nectar thick).
We take something like 100 or so pictures in order to determine what they are or not able to eat. This way they do not get pnemonia or other infections. ;)
